Welcome

This website contains a variety of free resources relating to the history of  East Yorkshire people and places, with a particular focus on the areas around Howden and Goole. and the surrounding villages.

I have gathered the historical material on this website over many years and it is available freely. But if you are wanting to share it please ask and  if possible credit this website.

Also I have several hundred old pictures of the area. I have gathered them too over many years – some inherited as actual very old photos, many as postcards which I have been given or bought and others scanned from friends or past students who have given me permission to copy them. Over the years I have provided digital images for various publications as well as for family historians. I do make a charge for them but do not be afraid to ask me if I have a picture about a place or person you are interested in.

Although now retired I worked for many years as a genealogist and have researched several Yorkshire families.  I still take on short commissions where the family has a connection with the local area.

I have published local history books about Gilberdyke, Saltmarshe, Eastrington, Howden and Goole. Some are out of print but I have copies of my books on Eastrington Howden and Saltmarshe available.

Also have a look at my blog – I have been writing it for over ten years and it covers a wide variety of local and family history topics. It tells you a little more about me and life in the East Yorkshire countryside
